I have 4 years old kid, he is active. Drinks milks 3 times in a day, eat well but he still doesn't have an ideal weight. his weight should 16 kilos, but now still 14,6 kilos. what should I do to increase his weight? can you show me what food can make him more fat? thanks
Hello! This is Dr. Klarida Papaqako answering your question. Thank you for posting your concern to HCM.
Children weight is very depending on height, weight on birth, and parents genetics. To evaluate this, are used charts with which you can follow your boys weight. Here it is a good link that we use: http://www.cdc.gov/growthcharts/who/boys_weight_head_circumference.htm
Its important, that your boy to follow the same line of combination "weight-length" (we call percentile) and not necessarily be in the 50% line, but just be in the same line. As soon as your son is active and he eats well, no reason to worry about it. Keep encouraging him to eat healthy food, and a variety of it. Obesity is a bigger disease than low weight nowdays.
Hi...Nothing to worry. Your kid's weight centile is between 15th to 25th centile. It is normal. I take this opportunity to tell you certain scientific facts and relieve your distress - 1. An active is a well kid even if she/ he is not eating well. 2. Development of a kid is as important as or I would say even more important than growth alone. 3. As the kids grow their interest in food decreases and interest in play activities increases so that they eat small quantity and run away to play. As parents we need to be more patient and feed than less quantity but more aliquots per day. 4. This age rather than the quantity of the food I suggest you concentrate more on the number of times you feed her and also make whatever you feed her calorie dense by adding good amount of ghee to it. 5. I suggest you not to use appetite stimulants on long run as they may cause drowsiness. Regards - DR. Sumanth
