I will try to give you some general guidelines but I have no height, weight, age,diet order, or whether you want to lose weight. So, here goes.
These are starter guidelines for
diabetes, but I really suggest you have a personalized diet and exercise program worked out for you with a Dietitian.
In individuals with diabetes, the goal is to to control the blood sugar while, in your case, not aggravating the
liver. So, you have probably been told already not to drink alcohol.
There really is no ideal distribution of carbohydrates,
proteins or fats. So, I suggest you start out your day with breakfast containing a low fat source of protein. Protein gets your
metabolism going - just what you need in the morning.
If you are
overweight, cut your current portions in half and try to lose 1-2 pounds per week.
Limit
cholesterol to less than 200 mg /day as people with diabetes absorb more cholesterol and that is the newest recommendation from the Diabetes Association. One egg has 270 mg. of cholesterol for example.
Carbohydrate intake should come from fresh fruits not juices or sodas, vegetables and whole grains. The soluble fibers from oats, psllium and legumes help regulate blood fats, blood sugars and appetite.
Look up low and high glycemic foods and try to avoid the high glycemic carbohydrates overall.
A Mediterrean style eating pattern has often been advised. Recent research suggests that you get your B12 level checked since we are finding many people with diabetes also with outright B12 deficiency or sub-clinical. Replacement of B12 is easy. Talk to your doctor.
