Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi doctor, I am a 40-year-old from Greece. I must take sintrom for 6 months after an accident that has left me with a clot in my leg. I know I must avoid food with vitamin K, but there are practically no fruits and vegetables without that vitamin. What should I eat?
Sintrom is an anticoagulant and as you are aware it is given to avoid the clot formation. Vit K on the other hand is responsible to reduce the blood clotting time and thus may interfere with the effect of the medicine.
But there is no need to completely avoid the foods with Vit K, all you need to do is avoid the foods with higher concentrations of this Vitamin. Following foods are rich in Vit K and must be avoided: parsley spinach Brussels sprouts Green Tea sea weed Swiss chard Kale Broccoli Cauliflower Beef liver soy Cabbage and asparagus.
You may take one of these foods once in 10 days but make sure that you do not combine these foods in a single meal.
Hope this helps.
