Suggest Dosage For Glimepiride

Started taking Glimepiride 2 mg 6:30 PM nightly before dinner. This is a starter dose I think. Does this medicine require a gradual buildup over time to an increased dosage later as to safety concerns? Went to a endocrinologist seeking better sugar management than taking Metformin.

hi dear. thanks for trusting HCM. I have gone through your questions and understood your concerns. may I know how much is your fasting blood sugar? is it controlled? have you checked HbA1c lately?

glimepiride is an antidiabetic agent from sulfonylurea class. the dosage of glimepiride for type 2 diabetes mellitus based on the glycemic response of each patients.
but for initial/early dose is 1-2 mg orally, it's better administered in the morning with breakfast or first main meal. the dose may increase by 1-2 mg every 1-2 weeks. the maximum dose is not to exceed 8 mg/day.

here some info for you:
- Take glimepiride at the same time of day.
- keep your healthy diet and do workout plan that your doctor told you
- be aware of hypoglycemic signs such as severe dizziness, headache, feeling sleepy, feeling weak, shaking, a fast heartbeat, confusion, hunger, or sweating. if you feel so, please soon meet your doctor.

I hope these can clarify your queries. I hope you'll get controlled blood glucose and can feel better. if there's anything else you need to know, just feel free to ask me more in HCM. take care.

best regards,
dr. Asti Yuliadha
