Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been taking glucosamine sulfate for about a year. Last September I had a heart attack (one stent) and was prescribed Plavix. I ordered a different brand of g.s. And on the label it said to consult dr. If taking a blood thinner. I am getting black and blue marks and figured it was because of the Plavix and small dose aspirin. Have I been taking l tablet a day (750 mg) as too much. This new one is 1000. Thank you for your advice.
Glucosamine can cause your blood to get more thinner. The same do Plavix and aspirin.
Your chances to get bleeding is increased while taking all those drugs altogether. This explains the black and blue marks on your skin.
I advise to stop taking Glucosamine (1000 mg) is a strong dosage. Consult further with your doctor to check INR and pt-time to evaluate how thin your blood is and a complete blood count for anemia. Changes in dosage of aspirin and Plavix should be also made upon the results.
Hope this helps.
