Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

First of all it is NOT SAFE to take Mifegest Kit to terminate the pregnancy because of serious side effects like severe and prolonged bleeding, cramps, infection and incomplete abortion.

Secondly, the duration and the location of the pregnancy should be confirmed by an abdominal ultrasound scan.

Pregnancy should be less than 7 weeks and it should be intrauterine (within the womb). Hence, it has to be taken under the supervision of a gynecologist.

This kit contains 1 Mifepristone and 4 Misoprostol tablets and all medicines are to be taken by mouth. Misoprostol tablets can be taken orally or vaginally.

Usually, one tablet of Mifepristone is taken first followed by 4 Misoprostol after 48 hours.

Or else, take one Mifepristone first, after 24 hrs, two Misoprostol and again after 12 hrs, two Misoprostol tablets can be taken.

Upon taking the Misoprostol tablets, cramping and bleeding may begin as soon as 30 minutes. Within the next 6 to 8 hours, most women will miscarry or abort. You can expect bleeding heavier than a menstrual period with large clots.

When used in combination, this kit is 95% to 97% effective within two weeks.

A follow-up exam is scheduled for two weeks later to make sure the process is complete. One pelvic ultrasound scan is required to check retained bits if any. Dilation and curettage (D&C) or suction (surgical method) may be required to evacuate the uterine cavity in less than 5% of the women.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
