Hi, I'm 34 year old/female and I have been taking 50 mcg of thyronorm since past 5 months and my TSH has come down from 7.7 to 5.6...i have anti-TPO of 1300. Now i have been asked to increase my dosage from 50mcg to 75mcg...Could you please let me know if this is the right dosage ? I suffered a miscarriage 5 months back and i got to know about my thyroid problem then. Since we are also trying to have a baby now, would this changes in TSH affect ..also how long should i wait before trying for a baby ? In case i conceive, would it lead to any problems ?
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. I carefully read your report and I am trying to give you some more information regarding hypothyroidism. By the hormonal exams that you have done, your diagnosis results to be Hashimoto thyroiditis, which is an autoimmune disease.
If I were your treating doctor I would have also increased the dose to 75 mcg, in order to correct the TSH. The recommended level of TSH prior to conception and during the pregnancy is 2.5 mUI/ml. That is why you have to increase the dose. TSH 5.6mUI/ml is a bit high and may be a cause of difficulty to conceive and may also cause problems during pregnancy. After increasing the dose you have to wait 6 weeks and then to check the TSH again.
Hope you have an answer for your questions. Let me know if I can assist you further.
