Can you tell me if these items are good for a Hypothyroidism diet? molasses- potatoes- macadamia - pecan- walnuts- fenugreek- mustard seeds- turmeric- black pepper- chili pepper- cinnamon- cumin- oregano- cayenne pepper- cucumber- fresh ginger- cilantro- wheatgrass- acai berry- hemp seeds- pumpkin seeds- strawberries- raspberries- pears- cherries- cantaloupe- grapes- barley- garlic- miso
Hello, I am not certain where you got that list of foods for your thyroid, but there are two essential nutrients for a thyroid gland - iodine to enable the thyroid to produce T4 and selenium for T4 to be converted to the active hormone T3. Those are the two we concentrate on. The spices and fruits you list all seem to have wonderful nutritional value for a variety of reasons but none necessarily thyroid specific. Foods high in iodine include seafood, fish, eggs, milk products, and iodized salt. Selenium is limited in the food supply with the highest being Brazil nuts, tuna and seafood. I hope I have addressed your query. Thank you for visiting us at HCM. Kathy Shattler, MS,RDN
