Suggest Ideal Diet When Diagnosed With Diverticulitis

Hi Doctor, I have just been told by my gastroenterologist that I have diverticulitis. I am 89 years old. What do I need to do to modify my diet. I have never had any pain or discomfort. My condition was just diagnosed through a colonoscopy procedure last week. thanks. Tom F

Hi, You can have probiotic diet, best food sources of probiotics are fermented foods, such as yogurt, quark, Yakult, sauerkraut, kefir, kimchi, tempeh, and miso. Fiber supplements that includes legumes, vegetables, fruits and nuts.
Vitamin D. Avoid seeds in fruits and vegetables like tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, strawberries and raspberries. Take food high in fiber which include whole-grain cereals and breads
, fruits (apples, berries, peaches, pears),
vegetables (squash, broccoli, cabbage, and spinach), and
beans, peas, and lentils.
