Suggest Medication And Diet To Control Cholesterol Levels

Hello Doctor, I am male, 43 years old, 181 cm, 80 kg, from India. I have had varying cholesterol levels (very high risk 350+, to normal to 200+ high bad and low good) in the last 2 years depending on the medicine I have been taking. I was advised to have Fibator 10 mg and later 5 mg. After over an year and a half I happened read about its side effects - the visible ones for me were rashes and boils on my posterior and sever urinary infection about 10 months ago - and so changed my doctor. My new doc prescribed me Rozavel F 5, I have been using it for the last month and a half, but the rashes with severe itching refuse to go away and this now has a new side effect - wind. What should I do now? Change the doctor again, change the medicine or just try and reduce my cholesterol level with diet and exercise only?

Hello,
Welcome to Health Care Magic. I read carefully your query and I understand your concern.
For your high value of lipid blood profile you should have a healthy diet with low saturated fat coming from animal food e.g. red meat(consume less/equal 2 time per week),eggs, butter(replace with olive oil),milk(choose low percent fat container) ,cheese etc; eat 5 portion of vegetables and fruits; do minimally 30 minutes of brisk walking every day; maintain a healthy weight for your height (BMI for normal weight 18,5-24,9), as I see you are at normal weight(24,4) but near the overweight range so you should not gain weight more than you have just now, even I recommend you to lose weight. You should avoid alcohol intake and smoking.
The medication for lower the cholesterol blood level is just the medication that the doctors prescribed to you, I show that you have taken them in the smallest dosage and you show the side effects after a year and you changed doctor. The doctor had changed the medication and you show again that the rush didn’t go away, first of all during the intake of drugs that decrease the lipid blood level you should monitor regularly the blood lipid value to monitor the dosage of drugs and interrupt if the lipid blood level has arrived the normal value and also you should monitor the blood liver function because the main side effect of this drugs is the damage of liver, the supposed side effects that you mentioned here happen after a long period that you have taken the drugs and didn’t go with the change of it, I recommend you to do a the liver functional blood test and a urine test plus the lipid blood level and you didn’t have to change the doctor to solve the problem you should go to the doctor and evaluate the problem that cause your condition and choose a healthy lifestyle with good habits.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Kind regard,
Dr .Marsida Janko
