Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 52 yo African American woman taking Lisinopril 20 12.5 tablets one per day and have been experiencing hair loss around my temples. My hair dresser said my hair loss and grainy hair texture is due to the Lisinopril. What other hb med should I try?
It is unfortunate that you had hair loss It's a very rare side effect of drugs like Lisinopril. The hair will grow back when the medication is stopped. I may take a while though, like a month or two.
Meanwhile consult your treating doctor for the alternate but a safer medication as suggested above and to rule out other causes of hair loss (hormonal disorders like hypothyroidism).
Besides, you are advised to take nutritional supplements in the form of multivitamins consisting of Folic acid, Biotin, Vitamin A & E, trace elements like Zinc and Selenium etc.
Hope to have answered your query.
