I accidentally almost cut off my second knuckle of my left index finger. I am worried that I have damaged the flexing part of the finger. I cut it with a brand new knife and only had a small portion of skin that kept it attached. It seems the more I try to use it the more severe pain I get. Should I keep trying to force my finger closed. What does it look like when the tissue is dying?
I am so sorry to hear about this accident you sustained. The finger is a very valuable and aesthetic structure that I would not want you to take things into your hands. Please, you would need to consult with your doctors so that they can address this problem. I think you would at least need some sort of surgery to get the damaged structures reattached too each other to minimise you loosing the function of your finger. Please, get consulted by your primary physician who would determine where to refer you to for appropriate care.
Death tissue causes pain, looks pale/blue/black and may smell awlful if it is a long standing problem.
