Suggest Medication For Acid Reflux

Hi the past week or so I have been burping a lot and feeling a lot of pressure in my chest. It was causing my heart rate to race really fast. I was just breathing through it every night but it kept getting worse. Friday night my husband rushed me to the ER and on the way there my whole body went numb and my hands closed and wouldnt open, I thought I was dying. When we got to the ER my heart rate was up at 160 (I am a 22 yr old female who is normally very active) They did an EKG and a chest xray and told me that I had acid reflux and anxiety along with low potassium levels. They gave me xanax, prevacid, and zofran and sent me home. Well, the next night I went back to the ER feeling the same and all they did was tell me there wasnt much they could do except give me a stronger anxiety pill. So then they gave me ativan. Well, it seems to be helping with calming me down, but def not my acid reflux at all yet. Im scared of eating because of a flare up. I had read online that sometimes smoking marijuana helps, but Im scared that it would make me worse. What should I do?

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

For acid reflux or gastroesophageal reflux disease,

You will need drugs with some precautions and this combined effect will helpful to you.

Smoking marijuana will not help you rather it may worsen the condition.

You may require proton pump inhibitors(lansoprazole) with prokinetic
drugs(mosapride, levosulpride) which actually increases stomach emptying time along with effect on gasteoesophageal sphincter.

You should continue with ativan in night time to relieve from anxiety.

Apart from medication you need to follow certain listed things
1) Avoid oily, spicy and high fiber diet.
2) Avoid eating with full stomach rather you eat small frequent meals.
3) Avoid taking rest for 2 hours after meal.
4) You can walk slowly up to first 2 hrs of meal but don't walk fast.
5) You made regular eating pattern.
6) Have your dinner before 8 pm so that at the time of sleeping your stomach will be empty.
7) Do yoga regularly.

All this cumulative effect will be beneficial to you while treating for the GERD.

If still problem persists then you should see gastro physician for throughly examination.
