Suggest Medication For Asthma, cough And Runny Nose
Hello, My Son is 4 years old/we 14 kg. -- and since last 2 years he develops status asthamaticus alongwith cough and running nose. WE used to give him amoxy+Potassium Cultivate. But, since last 15 days, he seems to generate much cough but there is no running nose. Also, he developed status asthamaticus around 10 days ago which normally lasts for 30 hours. Nebulizers makes him comfortable and his RR comes down from 55 to 30 in 2 days max. We are not able to identify and allergen but seems seasonal variation is the most likely cause. So, i have the two questions : a. Whats the best treatment for antibiotic - MEGA CV or Azitrhal .. which one to choose and when. b. What are the steps we can take to keep him healthy. Many thanks,
Thanks for the query. I can understand your concern. First of all you should not give antibiotics for each and every episode of status asthmaticus. Choice of antibiotics depends on which type of infection is there. For asthma which is hyper-responsive airway disease there is no need of antibiotics generally unless there is suspicion of secondary bacterial infection.
Coming on to your second query, to keep him healthy you should avoid cold, dust, extreme of whether, his room should be clean and wet mopping should be done regularly.
Give him some iron tonic and multivitamin to support the growth of the child.
And most important is keep regular follow up with your doctor.
