Suggest Medication For Chronic Migraine

Hi my 20 year old son has chronic migraines with aura, he has taken his two doses of relpax for the week....Monday and today. He stopped taking propanol yesterday, as per his doctors order and was told to wait a week and then start Norvasx...what can he do for tomorrow if he wakes up with another debilitating migraine...he has an important college field trip, which he doesn t wan to miss, migraines are ruining his life.Please advise ...thank yiu

Hello dear,
I understand your concern.It is not an absolute restriction that 'relpax' can't be taken more than two times a week.However,Relpax should not be taken more than 80 mg in 24 hours.Standard tablet is 40 mg,so you can repeat it,if your son has severe headache tomorrow.Also,non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like naproxen can be used for terminating acute attack. Amitriptyline 10 mg can be taken at bedtime today itself to prevent an episode.PLEASE TAKE MEDICINES UNDER A PHYSICIAN'S SUPERVISION.I hope it helps.
