Dear Dr, I have a constant cough. I had a sinus infection a little over a month ago that required 3 courses of antibiotics to get rid of it. After this I began taking a over the counter med to alleviate post nasal drip aller-fex . This is a Costco product. I have allergies and am wondering if I am having an allergic reaction to this over the counter med? I have been coughing so much i have now hurt my back. I am not coughing anything up it is a dry constant cough. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. In my opinion, you are mostly having post infectious bronchitis or lung infection. Both of them are common after upper respiratory tract infection (sinusitis) and cause similar symptoms. So consult pulmonologist and get done 1. Clinical examination of respiratory system 2. Chest x ray to rule out lung infection. 3. PFT (pulmonary function test) for the diagnosis of bronchitis. You may need higher antibiotic (if it is lung infection) or inhaled bronchodilator and inhaled corticosteroids (if it is bronchitis). Don't worry, you will be alright. But first diagnose yourself and then start appropriate treatment. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
