Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What are the best medications for depression. I have a daughter dealing with depression 27 years old. She went to see her physician today and recommended Trazodone. I don t feel this drug is right for her. Any suggestions. I told her to see a psychiatrist
She is 27 years old and have depression. She is advised to take Trazodon. Trazodon is a tetracyclic antidepressant drug which has good efficacy but it has side effects of sedation and weight gain. In persons with depression and insomnia the drug is preferred because it helps in sleep. Other antidepressants like fluoxtine, paroxetine, sertraline, venlafaxine can be kept as options. These drugs are relatively safer and are free of serious side effects. These drugs also have equal or better efficacy than trazodon. You can visit her psychiatrist and can discuss for these drugs.
hello, you chose a right decision to consult a psychiatrist because for depressionbehaviour therapy with proper counselling is best treatment than medications.Be friendly with your daughter and know the main reason for her depression if possible.give her mental support if she is thinking about something over and over again..have a nice day
