Suggest Medication For Grade 2 Placenta Calcification

I have grade 2 placenta calcification and am going to hospital to see consultant on Wednesday at 38+1 for sweep. Im very concerned because any research ive done says that It probably won t work because its too early. Ive never been checked to see if im dilated or effaced. My baby has only ever measured on 10th centile. The baby s stomach is roughly measuring 3 and a bit weeks behind. Movement is reduced but I feel I keep getting fobbed off and told everything is fine. I don t understand why I would be getting a sweep earlier instead of them doing something that will definitely work instead. Im really stressed over it for past 8 weeks and worry that because the sweep won t work they are dragging it out, putting me through discomfort for nothing, possible stress on baby then to add stress through induction anyway for to then maybe end up with a c section. Can you give me some advice on the situation and do you know if at this stage if I can request a c section sooner rather than later? I have a normal vaginal birth with my daughter but im so worried this time that its putting too much on me and the baby, and that they constantly are taking a chance waiting on my placenta getting worse and then at that point it may be too late for my unborn baby that at this point my just be on the small side. Please help!

OBGYN 's  Response
Dear member,
Thanks for writing to healthcare magic.
your concerns are valid.
The fact that your baby's abdomen(stomach) measure 3 weeks behind dates means that there is some growth lag.
are you hypertensive? what about fetal weight and amniotic fluid index?
to patients who come to my clinic who have similar complaints where the baby has shown some growth lag I would recommend the following.
1. non stress test where the baby's heart is traced in presence of fetal movements. if reassuring then repeat every 3 days.
2. ultrasound for amniotic fluid index twice a week.
3.doppler indices of fetal vessels to look for early signs on baby compromise.
As this is your second baby a sweep of membranes may initiate early labour.

if all the tests are normal the you can wait till labour onset or ask for early induction of labour which works better than just a sweep of membranes.

If the tests are normal then you know that you are not being falsely reassured and you have some proof that your baby is doing fine and you can relax.
if any tests are suggestive of fetal compromise then you can request for a caesarean section.
I hope this answers your queries. please discuss your concerns with your obgyn. I hope they will help you allay your concerns.
best of luck and have a safe delivery.
Thanks.
Dr Bhagyashree.
