Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
im worry my dad had a minor physical at his work and he said his blood pressure was 150/80 they said he needs to go see his pcp, he hasnt gone and he ask me what can he take for now to keep it stable, i heard it can lead to a stroke, i love my dad and it will kill me if something serious was to happen to him please help!
Thanks for contacting HCM. you have not mentioned whether your father has any associated illnesses like diabetes and heart disease. Is he having any symptoms. The BP readings you have mentioned are not very high to warrant panic, in fact it could be a case of white coat hypertension as many times first reading while checking BP shows a high systolic Blood pressure ( 150 in case of your dad) which settles down to actual values after relaxing for few minutes. As your dad's diastolic values are only 80, there doesn't appear any cause for panic, though getting a complete examination is suggested to look for associated illnesses and other causes of high systolic BP like valvular heart disease, sever anemia with hypertension, thyroid problems etc. Regards
