Suggest Medication For Intermittent Headache Due To A Concussion
My 7 yr old daughter was hit in the forehead with a softball today. Has a goose egg the size of a quarter. Pupils are equal and react to light. She complains of intermittent headache type pain. Goose egg is not bruised looking just red on the surface. Should I be concerned of a concussion? Speech is fine, no complaints of dizziness. No appetite change. Thank you.
I think that she has a soft tissue injury because of the injury to the head. If she was hit by a very soft ball, it is unlikely that she can develop a headache because of it. If she did not faint as well, the chance of a brain injury are low.
I recommend that you start her on icing of the affected area. Ice the area for 15 minutes at a time every hour. After this, watch for reduction in pain and reduction in the swelling. If the local pain starts to go down, then she should be fine.
I would not recommend her taking any medication but you should give her lots of water and get her to sleep well. This will help her to recover. If the headaches persist, take her to see a Doctor for a physical exam. All the best.
Hope this helps you
