Suggest Medication For Itchy Skin And Red Rash

I am 81 years old. I itch all over my body. I have a red rash everywhere I scratch. I can see it on my legs. But I itch everywhere. I have congestive heart failure, diabetes, etc. I have taken 3 Benadryl tablets in the last 48 hours. It might help a little but not much.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history of itchy red rash, my treatment advice is -
1. Don't squeeze the lesions as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild topical steroid cream like Mometasone cream on the lesions.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like Levocetrizine.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics, oral steroid taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
