Suggest Medication For Psoriasis
Good morning,I have got a chronic skin rash on both my hands, it started just over a year ago on both palms near my thumb it has now spread completely covering both palms and now on all my fingers it is hard like scales it cracks and bleeds then the layers peal away revealing what looks like burns then the process starts all over again ? I have seen 3 different dermatologist and after first being diagnosed with dermatitus they now have said that it is psoriasis. I have been given numerous different creams including topical steroids but nothing works . My GP and dermatoligis have both said that I now need Uv treatment but I have been waiting for this treatment now for 5 months . I had an appointment booked for the 30th of October but yesterday received a letter from this hospital cancelling my appointment and rebooking it for the end of November. I am at my wits end this condition is so painful it effects every aspect of my life , is there anything I can take for the pain or to stop it from fissuring , because the cuts are so deep they take weeks to heal.Please can you offer any advise I am desperate.

Psoriatic patches involving palms and soles is certainly going to interfere with day to day activities. Fissuring and cracking would make hand movement painful.
Frequent use of moisturizers, softens thick scaly plaques and help seal cracks and fissures.
Apart from moisturizers, potent topical steroid creams e.g clobetasol propionate 0.05% with or without salicylic acid, are specific treatment for thick scaly psoriatic patches involving palms.
However, topical treatment alone may not be effective in alleviating the problem completely and moreover topical treatment modalities may take time to produce noticeable improvement in the patches.
In my view, Oral Methotrexate is an option for psoriatic patches involving palms.
Though this drug is mainly used for widespread body involvement with psoriasis but in those cases with incapacitating involvement of palms, it is definitely indicated.
It is a prescription drug and therefore I suggest you to talk to your dermatologist for the needful.
