Suggest Medication For Purplish Toenail With Clear Liquid After Injury.

At the end of January I walked around Wal-Mart for a few hours, longer than usual, waiting to get tires changed, when I went home the tops of my big toenails hurt, this happened before but went away by morning, but this time part of the nail in the center turned a purplish-black color, then maybe a month later the black spots turned white(like they we lifted, but looked like they were growing out, 2 weeks ago I put sneakers on to go to an appointment, and noticed that my toenails were hurting, 4 days ago I noticed the skin at the corner of one of the nails was bulging, you could tell there was clear liquid in it, 2 or 3 days ago I soaked them in Epsom salts and poked the bulge with a sterilized needle, and clear liquid came out, now there is a big off-white spot on each big toenail, and when I go out in the sun, they look yellowish.

Hello,

As per your case history you are having toenail infection. My treatment advice is -
1. Maintain good hygiene and trim nails regularly.
2. Apply an antifungal lotion like clotrimazole lotion twice daily on it.
3. Take an NSAID like ibuprofen for 5-7 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like levofloxacin, cefadroxil, and azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
