Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

Acute sunburn can be very painful and discomforting. Cool compresses would certainly help.
I treat my patients of acute sunburn with a short course of an oral steroid (for a week).
Topically I ask them to apply a moderately potent topical steroid e.g mometasone furoate 0.1% cream Or betamethasone valerate 0.05% cream, twice daily.
Steroids being anti-inflammatory, therefore, bring about rapid improvement in the condition. They are vasoconstrictive and therefore also decrease swelling and redness associated with an acute sunburn.
Steroids are prescription drugs, I would suggest that you contact your doctor for the needful
