Hi Doctor , i m 19 years old i have been smoking for almost 8 months . yesterday i had a fever and now my throat pains , it feels like something is stuck there . it pains when i cough or swallow anything . can it be because of smoking ?? And is anything serious ??
The symptoms are typical of pharyngitis or otherwise called sore throat. As a first line management, you can consult a general practitioner and start on a short course of antibiotics preferably amoxicilin / clavulanate combination. Do warm saline or antiseptic mouth gargles. You can also try over the counter available analgesics like paracetamol for symptomatic relief. Generally the symptoms will settle in couple of days. If symptoms persists better to consult an ENT specialist and get evaluated. In that case, you may require a throat swab as well.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
