Suggest Medication For Treating Dry Cough

Dear Doctor,

I am writing to say that I have been coughing for four weeks now. I feel the need to cough quite often. It is a dry non productive cough. First, I feel tired of coughing and also, I feel something in the chest (perhaps irritations). I am French and I am currently in Cardiff for two weeks. I was wondering if there was a medecine you could please recommend so that I can go and buy it tomorrow at the pharmacist's? Thank you very much in advance for your help and advice.

Best regards,

Samia Amar

Hello,

The dry non-productive cough points towards allergic cough.

For that, you can be prescribed an antihistaminic drug like levocetirizine or Benadryl.

Dextromethorphan-containing syrup can be prescribed as well.

If no improvement or cough duration more than two weeks then investigate with chest x-ray for further workup.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
