Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mom keeps claiming things that have happened currently have happened in the past. It was once in a while that she would do this, but now it’s daily. It’s small everyday things like our landscaper we just hired she is convinced he worked for us 2 yrs ago. Which is absolutely untrue. She will say we had a conversation last week that we did not. I could go on and on. Is this some kind of disorder? She struggles with depression. Could a change in meds cause this? YYYY@YYYY
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. The symptoms like she is claiming that things what are happening in present time have happened in past also, and such symptoms are persistent could point toward some underlying severe depression or some psychotic event. Such symptoms need proper evaluation to make proper diagnosis. Visit a psychiatrist for proper management. In severe depression with psychotic symptoms such type of behaviour can be see. Such symptoms could be pointing towards some cognitive impairment.
Medicines apart from her conventional anti-depressants, like low dose olanzapine or quetiapine etc can help to reduce such symptoms and she would feel better. Discuss with her psychiatrist for prescription and management.
Thanks, Take care
