Suggest Medications For Persistent Cough In Elderly

My father is age 59 and is undergoing hemodialysis three times a week. For the past week, he has been having persistent dry cough which is more bothersome during night causing him to have sleepless nights. What would be the possible reason and what care should be taken?

Hello dear, welcome to healthcare magic forum.
If the cough is not associated with fever/yellow sputum/wheezing,you need not worry. It can be treated with cough suppressants like dextromethorphan and antihistaminics like levocetirezine for 5-7 days.Meanwhile, avoid dusty/cold atmosphere.Keep bed room,fan/AC vents free of dusts.
If it does not come down in 2-3 days,we have to examine the chest.
I hope you will find this information useful.Thank you.
