Suggest Medications For Persistent Cough

i have been coughing for 25 years, everyday all day. nothing goes in my mouth that doesn t make me cough. I cough from breathing. sometimes very violent. the ENT I a seeing cant treat. He has tried many things and rules out all the common things. Now considering Botox in my throat. I have very sensitive nerves and they cant seem to be calmed. I don t want the drastic approach of botox every 6 months for the rest of my life. Do you have any suggestions???? Please help get my life back and all the people around me who have to listen to me cough non stop

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent cough and chronic as well which is due to upper respiratory track infection leading to bronchitis/ granular pharyngitis. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist and take proper treatment . Doctor may order throat swab test , blood test , viral culture test and CT scan to find out the exact cause. You should get X-ray chest done along with pulmonary function tests. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin or penicillin ) at leat for 5 days along with decongestant . For now do warm saline gargles and take steam twice a day. Avoid use of sharp and spicy food substances. Avoid cold carbonated beverages.
