Suggest Medications To Control Sugar Levels

Iam residing in Muscat, Oman with my family and iam 32 yrs old. I had gone through my health check up in Muscat during Feb 2014 and found that my sugar level is 300 during fasting. It was the first time i came to know about this. Doctor prescribed Amaryl 2mg before break fast and Glucophage XR 500mg twice a day. After a month my sugar level came down drastically and i was also doing exercise regularly with a diet plan. Afterwards doctor told me to discontinue glucophage and iam still having amaryl. Now the sugar level is between 120 to 150 during fasting and 200 during pp. iam getting worried about my blood sugar level and would like to know on further treatments. Please advise.

Diabetologist 's  Response
Dear sir i can understand your concern
i am very sorry about your condition
in my opinion stopping metformin is a very bad idea since its a very good medication and helps not only to control of diabetes but also helps in keeping your weight and cholesterol in control
it also helps in safeguarding your liver from damage.
the medication amaryl works by stimulating pancreas and eventually it will exhaust your pancreas, so i suggest my patients to use amaryl in low dose only.
i am very happy to see you that you are following a good diet plan and exercise plan.i suggest you to check your
Hba1c also for a better understand of your condition.
follow proper plan from dietitian
relax nothing to worry keeping diabetes in control will keep you away from complications
