Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 14 year old brother is bipolar he is on several medications . The last 6 months he has been having behavior problem so bad hitting adults . Sending sex texting to even his cansolars .He saids he thanks about sex all the time .Does medications make this happen?
Presence of sexually inappropriate behavior is one of the common symptoms of bipolar disorder and I do not think this is the result of medications. In other words it can be said that the behavior is result of disorder and it can be attributed to ineffectiveness of medications.
The presence of hitting adults otherwise known as assaultive behavior is also a manifestation of bipolar disorder.
In my opinion discuss the option of lithium with his psychiatrist. Lithium is a mood stabilizer medication which is effective in treatment of bipolar disorder and there is good possibility that his assaultive and sexually inappropriate behavior will respond to it.
I hope this helps you. Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions. Thanks again.
