Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My doctor recently told me stop taking blood pressure medication that I had been on during a pregnancy. Today I have had several blood pressure readings in the range of 187/107 and I do not feel very well. I have called my doctor but will probably have to wait until the end of the day to get a return call. What shold I do?
Your doctor's advice is most important because he or she knows you. The blood pressure elevation from pregnancy usually goes away quickly but in some people may last for a month. I have suggested to patients in the past to resume medication for a week at a time followed by one to two day holidays with frequent measurement. This usually allows the medication to be safely discontinued without frequent visits to the office.
