If yes till when? 2) should I be taking iron tablets ? If yes till when? And is dexorange safe? 3) any other vitamin required at this stage? Kindly help! Many thanks

Hi and welcome to HCM.

Folic acid supplements is a must in pregnancy. It is better to continue folic acid through out pregnancy. You shouldn't need to take supplements to get the rest of your vitamins and minerals. All you need to do is make sure you have a variety of healthy foods. A balanced diet is the best way to get the nutrients you and your baby need.

But most of the obstetricians prescribe multivitamin supplements irrespective of your dietary pattern. But never take more than the recommended dose, which is usually one supplement a day. Taking megadoses of certain vitamins can be harmful to you and your baby.

Iron tablets are necessary for women who are diagnosed with anemia or else it is not necessary. But iron tabs also are prescribed even for non anemic pregnant women to restore the depleted stores. Your doctor is the right person to decide this. Try to have iron-rich foods, such as meat or pulses.

Dexorange syrup is an iron supplement. This is prescribed in case of iron deficiency anaemia. It can be take during pregnancy after 14 weeks of pregnancy

if you are eating fish, eggs and fortified dairy products and have exposure to sun light then vitamin D is not necessary. If not ask for supplements of this vitamin. No other vitamins are required
