Suggest Prognosis Of Quad Bypass Surgery, Pace Maker And 40% Working Heart
Hi Doctor,
I was just notified that my father's heart is working at 40%. He had quad-by-pass surgery about 5 years ago. He also has a pace maker. My question is this if his heart is working at 40% does that mean he is in congtestive heart failure?? Is there a time limit?? And also his cardiologist told him just to go on small walks. I just want you to please give ma a honest answer, I live far away and I don't know if this is the beginning of the end?? I'm one on those girls who need to prepare.
Thanks You so very much for you time and I hope honesty.
Kelli
Ejection fraction of 40% doesn't mean heart failure. One can live long with ejection fraction of 40% without heart failure. If your father has symptoms such dyspnoe, breathlessness, ankle edema, then he can have heart failure. But if he is doing well now, follows healthy lifestyle and his doctor's prescriptions there is possibility that he can live without heart failure long time.
Hope I could help you
Wishing good health to your father
