Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 14 y/9 son had his initial lab work prior to starting Accutane. His total bilirubin is elevated at 2.1 and his AST is low at 13, absolute monos slightly high at 0.92. Could you tell me what this might mean and should he start the Accutane or not? He was also known to have an elevated bilirubin at birth, does this mean anything?
Total bilirubin is slightly elevated . Nothing to worry if his skin and sclera appear normal. You may recheck bilirubin after couple to few weeks. Bilirubin at birth is high till 6th day. its Physiologic. Secondly, AST is NORMAL at 13, its not low. No harm to start accutane provided its prescribed by a health practitioner.
hope to answer your concern regards DR Tayyab Malik
