Suggest Remedies For Tender Breasts, Acne And Depression
Had mirena iud renewed in October, had previous (first) one for 5yrs with no real problems except for pms symptoms even though my periods stopped, tender breasts and occasional breakouts on face. This iud seems different (worse) I have very tender breasts for two weeks at a time, acne and feel very depressed with no sex drive for at least one week per month. Would antidepressants level my mood? Is there anything to relieve tender breasts? Don t want to remove iud as I enjoy no periods and do not want another baby.
While the Mirena IUD is an incredible product (it makes the lining of the uterus not respond to your normal cycle and thus you do not get a period), it has no effect on the hormonal cycle itself. You still ovulate and are subject to PMS related symptoms such as breast tenderness, acne, mood changes and decreased sex drive. Other methods of birth control that lead to no period AND suppress ovulation and PMS related symptom include the Depo Provera shot and the Nexplanon device. For symptoms strictly related to mood symptoms, you could consider a low dose anti-depressant as these are specifically indicated in the treatment of severe PMS.
I hope that this helps and good luck! Dr. Tim
