Hi. I dont think your tonsillitis is due to an
e.coli infection??? It definitely is acute membranous or
follicular tonsillitis based on the white spot that you describe.
Now based on your recent sexual history and UTI it is more likely that you have a viral infection called
infectious mononucleosis alias. Kissings disease. This will subside on its own and a good gargling with (Betadine/Tantum) before and after meals for about 5 days will take care of it. Of Course, you will need to abstain from sexual activities for a week or two.
This still does not rule out a bacterial infection in which case it is most likely to be
Streptococcus. An antibiotic is indicated if you have
fever and throat pain. Do note that
amoxicillin is contraindicated in infectious mononucleosis so if that is prescribed to you then I wouldn't take the chance.
If your antibiotic is not
amoxycillin then I would suggest you take the course with oral antiseptic gargling for 5 days which will take care of any immediate infection and prevent the development of any new infection in the next few days. Would also suggest a blood workup to check your
white blood cell counts.
