my brother had a mini stroke a few weeks ago and paralysed on the left side. His speech was also affected but now he seems to have mental problems and keeps on repeating same things and shouting calling us by our childhood names. My sister who is a nurse thinks he should go for HIV and VDRL test and thinks there must be something in connection with these two. What your advise?

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist, Niraj Modi's Response
After having stroke attack either major or minor it's common that patient some times have memory loss. And they remember only part of their life. No need to go for hiv test and all since there is no use. But I suggest to do proper scan and check how much damage has happen due to stroke and based on that take neuro physician doctor view also and continue with medication. In case if there is any functional disability not able to move hand and legs as well balance problem also do regular physiotherapy which will again help him to improve further. Take care
