Hi! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query. One of the commonest cause of a lump in the area is a lymph node apart from other common swellings from a thyroid gland and both of these move with swallowing and could be mobile on touching. With a history of the lump persisting for six weeks, if I were your doctor, I would first give a try to a broad spectrum antibiotic for a week. If it did not work, I would go for a thyroid function test, a thorough examination of the oral cavity including head and neck and a FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) of the lump which would establish the diagnosis for further management.
I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.
Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
