Dear Dr. Rynne, My 92-year-old husband is a once-a-day bowel movement person, but recently he has needed prunes to help him. Today is the second day he wasn t able to move his bowels, and he was in such misery that he fell in the bathroom and was trembling and sweaty. On the toilet he asked me to help him scoop some stool out, and after much pushing, was able to relieve himself and felt better. But after some rest, he discovered some bleeding in his pants, although it s not dark red blood, but watery pale red slivers. He also has some mild abdominal pain. It s now Friday night in Seattle. Do you think he should go to an ER facility tonight?
