I have bi-polar and developed alcohol problems, though Ive never had a driving offence a psychiatrist notified the DVLA when he smelt alcohol on me. I have not held a licence now for years. I am now being asked for a blood test, although I haven't drunk alcoholicly in the past year I still enjoy a few glasses of wine in the evening. I know my LFT's indicated I'd had problems a while back, I know there is a GTT, or GGT and I wonder if you could put me straight on all this.
Drinking alcohol very frequently would lead to derailed LFT.GGT is tested to detect if there is any recent consumption of alcohol.
I would suggest you to anticraving medicines after discussing with your psychiatrist. As alcohol drinking might precipitate another bipolar episode.
Hope the answer has helped you.
