Suggest Remedy For Behavioral Disorder Causing To Check Lock Of Doors Repeatedly

Yes.My wife have to have the blinds in the house turned a certain all the time, and she checks the door with her hand after she locks it, when I lock the door she will come behind me and check to make sure it is locked.what kind of disorder could this be.

I understand your concern about your wife abnormal behaviour. From the description of her symptoms, it appears that your wife could be suffering from a psychiatric disorder called Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

Such repeated checking behaviours are called compulsions and are part of OCD. Some persons may have other compulsions like repetitive washing, cleaning, etc. Persons with OCD are ablw to recognize that their repetitive behaviours are irrational and unwanted, but still they are not able to control them. This causes a lot of distres and discomfort.

There are effective treatment options available for OCD - in the form of SSRI medication and psychological therapy (CBT). So, I would advise you to convince your wife to consult a psychiatrist and start appropriate treatment.
