Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Mom is bipolar. On 60mg latuda. Cannot sleep well. Legs restless. Dr. Thought SE of drug. Not on any other patch drug. MD ordered to cut dose in 1/2 to 30mg. Not adding any other drug. I worry she will start having g depression of psychotic behavior- hallucinations/delusions. Instead I give 45mg. Thoughts?
Well, the restlessness that your is experiencing could very well be side effect of the drug she is taking, just as your mother's treating physician told you. Had she been symptomatic Im sure the doctor would have either added another drug while tapering this off simultaneous. My guess is your mother has been responding well to lurasidone, that's probably why the treating physician wants her to continue with the same drug and has considered reducing the dose to reduce the side effects and has not decided to completely take her off this medication. I strongly suggest that you follow what the physician has prescribed, because the treating physician knows what's best for the patient.
