Hi, I flipped out of my bed, kneeing myself in the eye causing a black eye. I applied ice, witch hazel, and hot compresses. Today I woke up and it looks like my eye is starting to swell again and is still a purple-reddish color. Should I ice my eye again? What should I do?
Hello It seems from the history that you are having black eye because of injury to the eye. Black eye is because of ecchymosis caused by bleeding into the layers of the skin of the eyelids as a result of injury. This is a self resolving condition and it will resolve on its own by 2-3 weeks depending on the severity of injury and bleeding. Applying hot compression provides symptomatic relief and you can use analgesics for pain relief. If you have symptoms like diminution of vision you need to consult your doctor for examination to rule out eye injury.
Thank you
