My son is 29 years old. He has sickle Ss. For a few years now, he has had episodes in which he feels very hot and breathless, and if he tries to walk, he collapses. He doesn t lose consciousness. Usually these episodes occur when he is in bed, often waking him from sleep. He tries to walk because, being wakened, he has to go to the bathroom. Until now, the weakness and breathlessness has lasted only a day or two. He usually goes to work the next day or the day after (sedentary telephone job.) This time it has been several days. Just saying a sentence leaves him breathless. He can t work and feels driving is risky. Of course I have been trying to get him to a doctor, but he says they ve never been able to do anything in the past. Any ideas? Thanks.
