I have the implanon for 32 months I know I m due for a new one april of 2015. But for the past 2 or 3 days I have been having this brown discharge! I know it s considered old blood but does this mean i need to change my implanon now instead of 4 months from now? How can I stop this brown discharge?
Usually the expiration date of Implanon implant is 3 years and it may be effective even after one year of its expiry. The brown discharge sometimes is due to clearance of inner lining of uterus endometrium which become thin and fragile due to action of hormonal implant. Sometimes these lining entrap the small blood vessels of uterus endometrium causing small bleeding episodes & this blood mixed with discharged epithelial cells give the vaginal fluid a brown color. But it is very much normal and you may get your implant replaced in due time as scheduled without any added risk of pregnancy.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
