Can a bee sting cause a bruise? I have a large and itchy bruise around a bee sting to the lower right of my right knee cap and just went on prednisone for severe hives up and down my arms and a big, swollen lower lip (those happened 48 hours after the bee sting). The prednisone helped everything very quickly, but took longer with the red, swollen area (about the size of a softball) around the sting. The redness is gone now, but the itching and bruise remain.
As per your query you have bruising around bee sting . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like allergic reaction to the toxic chemical released by the bee sting inside the skin. The symptoms can also because of infection due to honey bee sting. Apply an ice pack to a bite or sting for 15 to 20 minutes once an hour for the first 6 hours. When not using ice, keep a cool, wet cloth on the bite or sting for up to 6 hours. Always keep a cloth between your skin and the ice pack and along with him he should be given anti-allergic medicines like Benadryl or levocetrizine, anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen.
Do not scratch the swollen site if there is itching to prevent infection..
