Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi doctor,i am 29yr old women.i have swelling above my collarbones and it started as leftside shoulder pain then it moved to right shoulder exactly at the root of the neck.doctors considered it as muscle spasm and i took muscle relaxants and analgesics.now after four months my neck pain reduced but swelling above the collarbone persists and it is painful when I works.what can I do?
I think you are having cervical spondylitis. In this condition there is nerve compression in the neck due to degenerative changes. It is more common in people who keep their neck in same position for long time, this leads to muscle fatigue and pain. You have taken muscle relaxant and analgesics but those are only for giving short term relief. These drugs can not provide long term solution so I will suggest you to start neck muscle physiotherapy, In this you have to apply intermittent cervical traction, and muscle strengthening is taught. Avoid using very high pillow and also do not sit in front of laptop or computers for long hours. If there is swelling, this is accumulation of edematous fluid in the neck it can be relieved by hot water fomentation.
