I have a question regarding exfoliative cheilitis. I m unsure if i m suffering or not. My lips are relatively large and I have skin sensitivity especially to sunlight, and am fair in complexion. My lips flake constantly (white and yellow flakes). I try not to pick them but they re dramatically uncomfortable, not painful though. I eat a diet that is balanced and am fairly active (golf, walking). I stay hydrated religiously. What should I do? Is it worth going to a doctor in person, and if so, what would they do?
Understanding your concern. As per your query continous flakking of lips could be due to exvessive exposure to sunlight leading to postinflammatory hyperpigmentation. It could be due to dehydration and fungal infection as well. I would suggest you to apply petroleum jelly on it. You can also apply alovera gel as it does not contain chemicals and seal moisture of lips. You should drink plenty of water. Avoid exposure to sunlight. Visit dermatologist once and get it examined. Start treatment after proper diagnosis. Take supplements rich in vitamin B12. You can apply cold packs over the lips by wrapping ice in a cotton cloth. Avoid using lip products with high chemical content.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
