Hello, my 4 years old doughter had for 1 day a stuffed nose and running eyes...since this morning she started caughing and her nose started to run. She is cauching pretty bad and her breathing is heavy...she doesn t have fever, her mucus is white and she has a good apetite. Please tell me if she needs an antibiotic and if she does which one do you recomend. Thank you!
Hi, I'am Dr Suresh K Yadav MD (paediatrics), I had gone through your question and understand your concerns,
Although difficult to comment without examination , from your description it seems like viral illness and does not need antibiotics . Decision to start antibiotics is taken by proper examination and history of patient and can not be generalised. Absence of fever and good appetite are against possibility of missing anything serious . But she needs an exam to rule out possibility of bacterial throat infection and congestion in chest.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions
